FAQs

Q: What kind of clothing do you recommend?

A: When it comes to clothing, two things are key. I call them "The Two Cs": Comfortable and Classic. Comfort is especially essential for the little ones. If they're constantly adjusting their clothing or can't move freely because of it, this will inhibit their true expression of personality. Also, think classic when it comes to clothing. Polo shirts, oxford shirts, jeans, khakis, corduroys, cotton dresses, sandals and even bare feet are always going to look great. Classic clothing just lends even more to the timelessness of an image. I advise clients to stay away from super loud prints, crazy patterns, cartoon characters, text on shirts, etc. They distract from the beautiful faces and scenery that the individual shot is trying to highlight. Also, for the ladies - I recommend staying away from very low cut necklines or short skirts. These tend to make for a slew of "bad angles" and thereby limit the directions I'm able to shoot from.

Q: What can I do to prepare for our session?

A: Aside from the obvious "pick out a great outfit!" there are a few other things you can do to prepare for our time together. First, for any area of your home/property that you would like to make available to shoot in, clear all clutter away. This not only makes for a more attractive picture, but allows for more shooting time on our session day rather than spending time tidying up. Second, accept the fact that you'll be in front of a lens (although I may be shooting from behind a bush at some point - ha!) for probably between 1-2 hours, and make peace with it! Take a deep breath, and remember that when you and your loved ones look back on your photos for generations to come, they want to see how happy you were - not nervous! Don't let me leave and be kicking yourself for not just letting go and being in the moment. I'm easy going and free spirited - I appreciate each person for just who they are, so please be yourself!
